VDC User Survey 2006

Dear COSMOS VDC User,

We would like to hear your opinion on the usefulness to you of some of our current web site features as well as features we may provide in the future. Your opinions will help us set priorities for future site development.
Features we may provide in the near future are marked *, and features which would require additional funding sources or more extensive development time are marked ***. Features currently offered do not have an asterisk.

Privacy: This survey will not ask for your name, email address or personal address and is distinct from our download users list. Our interest is only in identifying the needs of our users.

Data Products

Rank the following (1=not useful, 5=very useful)
Acceleration
Velocity
Displacement
Fourier Spectra
Response Spectra
* Power Spectra
* RMS Spectra
Other:
For example, if you download a record, what additional site-specific information beyond what is currently provided by the data originator would you also want to be able to readily obtain for the analyses you want to perform?

Map Interface additions

Rank the following (1=not useful, 5=very useful)
*** Roads, railroads
*** Bridges, dams, power stations
*** Soil stucture
*** Rupture geometry
*** Distance to rupture
*** Geotechnical data
*** Water table
*** Topography
*** Images from satellite and/or aircraft
Other (please enter)

Data Format Consolidation Options. We are considering making all data available in one or more standard formats, in addition to their original formats. As is the case now, data would reside on the owner's server, but might, for example, be translated into your preferred format on the fly.

Rank the following (1=not useful, 5=very useful)
* All data in fixed-field format Sample
* All data in tag-value format Sample
* All data in xml Sample

VDC On-line functionality

Rank the following (1=not useful, 5=very useful)
View plots of acceleration
* View plots of velocity
* View plots of displacement
View response spectra
* Scatter plot of distribution of data (magnitude v. hypocentral distance)
*** Tool to visualize fault mechanisms
* Store your design spectra input parameters for your future use
Other:

Processing Tools (online or downloadable)

Rank the following (1=not useful, 5=very useful)
* Tool to display data (user configurable)
* Tool to edit data files
*** Tool to filter data
